The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of the last batch of 10 Compressed Natural Gas buses, bringing the total fleet to 50.
The buses were received on Sunday at the parking lot of Government House, Uyo, during the September edition of the Government Covenant Service attended by Governor Umo Eno, PhD.
Governor Eno said the arrival of the buses coincided with the induction of Ibom Air’s 10th aircraft, describing September as a month of landmark achievements for the state.
He announced that with CNG bus terminals already being constructed across the state, commercial operations would soon commence.
According to him, the initiative is designed to drastically reduce the cost of road transportation in Akwa Ibom.
“The bus will be designated to every local government area, but people who are going to Nsit Ubium should just be careful that they don’t go and enter the bus going to Ikot Ekpene,” the Governor said amid applause from dignitaries and worshippers who viewed the buses on the multimedia screens in the banquet hall.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing affordable and sustainable transport solutions for residents while leveraging cleaner energy alternatives.
The Governor thanked stakeholders for their support and assured that the CNG bus scheme would create jobs, ease movement, and boost commerce across the 31 LGAs.
