The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Obong Paul Ekpo has announced that the process for employment of one thousand primary school teachers will soon commence in the state.

He has also maintained that this will ensure that there are no lapses in delivering quality education services and imparting knowledge to the pupils.

Obong Ekpo stated these when he led other board members in an on-the-Spot inspection tour to public primary schools in the state.

He said the tour was occasioned by the need to ascertain the level of compliance to the resumption of the third term in the 2020/2021 academic year as well as access the adherence to Covid 19 guidelines by students.

Mr. Ekpo described the Primary education system as the bedrock of other forms of learning and development in life and added that basic education will give birth to excellent professionals in different fields of endeavours in future.

While addressing the teachers in schools visited, the Chairman said that teachers handling basic education occupy a very sensitive position in moulding and shaping the minds of the children which will affect their outcome.

He advised teachers to be committed, passionate, dedicated and honest in their duties and insisted that they follow their time table, make their lesson notes up to date and sign the time book.

The SUBEB helmsman commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the infrastructural development brought about by the fencing of Public Schools thereby ensuring that government schools are secured from encroachment and other forms of distractions.

While expressing the need to increase the number of teachers for maximum delivery and effectiveness, Mr Ekpo assured that SUBEB will do all within its capacity to ensure that excellence is given to the educational pursuit of every Akwa Ibom Child and added that education material will be sent across to aid and support in the delivering of best learning environment.

Also speaking at inspection to more schools, Board Member I, Elder Godwin Enoidem admonished the Primary School Children to be good ambassadors to their parents and to the state and included that they should ask questions where they do not understand what is being taught so that they can turn out to be the best in their chosen field of endeavor.

Schools Visited during the inspection included, St. Michael Primary School, Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Uyo, St. Patrick’s Primary School, Uyo, Christ the King Primary School, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, Lutheran Government Primary School, Ikot Obio Offong, Ibesikpo Asutan, Government Primary School Mbak Ekpe, Ibesikpo Asutan, Government Primary School, Afaha Ube Itam, Itu, QIC Group School, Nung Ukot Itam, Annang People’s School Utu-Otoro, Abak, St. Michael Catholic School, Ukanafun, Catholic School, Use Abat, Ibiono Ibom,Bishop Clerk Central School, Abak, Methodist Township School, Ikot Ekpene among others.

Also present at the tour were Board Member II, Mr. Ambrose Ekong, Board Member III, Mr. Iniobong Akpan, Board Member IV, Sir John Udoh, The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Eld. Ezekiel Umoh, the South-South Zonal Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC, Mr. Ibinoba Osahon and other Directors in the Board.
