Akeredolu Sets Up Judicial Panel Of Inquiry To Probe Activities Of SARS

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, has approved the constitution of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to look into all complaints by members of the public on alleged illegal activities of officers of Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State.

This was contained in a statement release in Akure by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation,Donald Ojogo on Monday.

Ojogo said the state government’s decision to set up the panel is in line with the decision taken at the last virtual National Executive Council meeting held on Friday, 16th October, 2020.

He said the 8man panel will be headed by a retired high court Judge, Hon.Justice Salisu Adesola Sidiq(Rtd) while Mr Lanre Amuda will serve as Secretary.

Other members of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry include; Mrs. Banke Oloba
Representative of Civil Society Groups – Member, Ifeanyi Odili Representative of Civil Society Group ,Mr. Samuel Adetuyi
Rtd. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oluyemi Fasipe,Youth Representative .

Others are; Mr. Leo Ologun
Representative of the office of the state Attorney-General ,Sunday Oyewole
Representative from the National Human Rights Commission .

He stated that the panel will receive and investigate complaints of police brutality or related extra- judicial killings by the police in Ondo State; will provide evidence and draw conclusion on validity of complains,and recommend compensation and other remedial measures.

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry has six months to conclude its assignment and submit its report.

Members of the Panel of Inquiry will be inaugurated on Tuesday by 1pm.
