It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community late Wednesday night, May 14, 2025 and started shooting sporadically.

Several other persons were injured and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

Over 20 houses were razed and food items looted during the attack.

Sources from the community also said most of those killed were children and aged persons.

A source from the community who does not want his name in print lamented that the gunmen came in their numbers and started shooting anything at sight.

He described the attacks as unprovoked, lamenting that several food stuff were carted away by the rampaging gunmen.

Recall that several communities had been attacked by armed men in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Riyom Local Government Areas of the state in the past few months.

A member representing Riyom State Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dachung Dadon, confirmed the latest attack.

“Eight members of my constituency were attacked and killed on Wednesday night in Wereng village. As I speak to you, the entire village has been ransacked by the assailants,” he said.

He condemned the recurring attacks, especially within his constituency, and called on the government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive action to halt the violence.
