Panic returned to Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday as a suspected gas leak sent students and staff of Our Lady of Apostles School to hospital with breathing problems.
Victims complained of weakness, dizziness and loss of consciousness after a strong smell filled classrooms.
The affected people were taken to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for treatment.
Some were still receiving treatment as of Wednesday night. It is the third gas incident at the Epe Garage area in two months
This latest event has raised concerns among residents, In April, about 40 students were hospitalised after a similar incident. In May, another event affected around 100 students and also required medical help.
Earlier, the Ogun State Government said that monitoring devices in the area detected methane gas as the likely cause of the repeated incidents.
Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, confirmed that the government was aware of the incident.
He said that monitoring equipment had already helped officials find where the gas was coming from.
He explained that investigations found the leak was coming from behind Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu-Ode.
He also said the state government had started working to fix the problem and prevent it from happening again.
