Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused elements within the All Progressives Congress of allegedly plotting to disrupt the August 15, 2026, governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday through his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke claimed that opposition actors were resorting to what he described as anti-democratic tactics due to fears of electoral defeat.
The governor’s camp alleged that internal assessments within the APC indicated declining public support, suggesting that the opposition was reacting to unfavourable political projections ahead of the election.
The statement further claimed that opinion surveys reportedly conducted between late 2025 and March 2026 placed APC support below 30 per cent, while Ademola Adeleke was said to enjoy approval ratings between 68 and 72 per cent.
According to the governor’s aide, these figures reflect strong public backing and growing confidence in the administration ahead of the forthcoming election, describing the opposition’s alleged actions as politically motivated.
The statement also referenced recent political remarks involving key figures within the Osun APC, claiming they had triggered internal tensions and further deepened factional divisions within the party.
It additionally accused opposition elements of attempting to destabilise other political platforms after allegedly failing to consolidate influence ahead of the polls.
However, the Osun State chapter of the APC swiftly dismissed the allegations, describing them as unfounded and politically driven.
APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi argued that recent defections from the ruling party’s camp had weakened its structure, while insisting that the governor’s claims reflected political anxiety rather than reality.
He further urged the public to disregard the allegations, stating that the APC remains focused on the upcoming election and confident of its chances.
