The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has postponed its screening exercise for presidential and governorship aspirants earlier scheduled for this weekend, citing security concerns affecting parts of Northern Nigeria.
The party announced that the exercise will now hold on Monday, May 18, 2026.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this in a terse statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the party took the decision due to the prevailing security situation in some parts of the North.
Abdullahi also revealed that the screening of affected federal lawmaker aspirants would now take place in Abuja.
“Due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” the statement said.
The party assured that all affected aspirants would be contacted with updated schedules and other necessary details regarding the exercise.
ADC expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the postponement and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of aspirants and stakeholders.
“The party regrets any inconvenience the adjustment may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all aspirants and stakeholders,” the statement added.
The development comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties conducting screenings and primaries for aspirants seeking various elective offices.
