The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the brutal killing of three individuals accused of witchcraft in Lamurde Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, the victims, identified as Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu, were tortured and killed by a group led by one Salestina Bala and her collaborators.

The incident was reported on September 14, 2024, by Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara at the Tigno Divisional Police Headquarters.

The police condemned the extra-judicial killings and assured the public that security forces have been deployed to arrest those responsible.

“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, as this cruel and violent manner of hers will lead to a breakdown of law and order and is totally unacceptable,” the police statement read.

The Command also addressed rumours of communal clashes in Lamurde, which began circulating on social media early Monday, claiming that violent Lunguda/Waja clashes had resulted in six deaths.

The police described the report as “fake news,” categorically stating that no such clashes had occurred.

“There’s no iota of truth, neither was there any Lunguda/Waja clashes,” the statement said, urging individuals to be cautious about spreading false information that could incite violence.

The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region while continuing its investigation into the witchcraft-related killings.
