The leadership of the Accord Party has firmly denied reports suggesting that it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 general elections, insisting that all its candidates will emerge through credible party primaries.

The party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, made the clarification during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, where he described the reports as misleading and inconsistent with the party’s internal democratic process.

Maxwell Mgbudem stated that no endorsement of any presidential candidate had been made, stressing that the Accord Party remains focused on strengthening its internal structures ahead of future elections.

He explained that the party’s candidates for all elective positions would emerge only after proper primaries, adding that nomination processes and timelines were already being finalised following the party’s National Executive Committee meeting.

“There is nothing like that. This is a political party and Governor Adeleke is our candidate. If there is any such endorsement, I assure you that the media will be the first to know. It will come from here,” he said.

The Accord Party chairman also reaffirmed the party’s support for Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, expressing confidence in his prospects ahead of the next governorship election.

He described Adeleke as a strong performer whose leadership has earned public approval within the state.

Maxwell Mgbudem added that the party was not concerned about opposition narratives, insisting that Governor Ademola Adeleke would secure victory based on his track record.

“On Governor Adeleke, everybody in this country knows he has done wonderfully well in the state. And the people are eager to vote for him again,” he stated.

The clarification comes amid controversy sparked by a billboard sighted in Iwo, Osun State, which featured images of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke.

While the All Progressives Congress accused the governor of political exploitation, the Adeleke administration denied any wrongdoing.

Maxwell Mgbudem also dismissed reports of internal crisis within the Accord Party, insisting that the party remains united and without any factional leadership dispute.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no leadership dispute or faction in Accord, and there is no court order in favour of Imumolen or anybody for INEC to comply with,” he added.

The party reiterated its commitment to internal democracy and transparency as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
