The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a married woman, Mrs Rukayat Muhammed, over the death of her alleged lover at a guest house in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this while parading the suspect alongside other suspects arrested by the command.
According to the CP, the suspect had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House, 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, with her alleged lover when he suddenly died.
He said upon discovering that her lover had died, the suspect took his phone and left the hotel without alerting the management.
The hotel management later discovered the body, but rather than report to the police, two staff members, Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly moved the body and dumped it under the Katampe bridge in Kubwa.
“Investigation into the lifeless body of a man found under the Katampe bridge on 26 August 2026 has revealed that the deceased had lodged at a guest house in Gwarimpa with a married woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2,” the police boss said.
Sanusi said police initially attributed the discovery to kidnapping or “one-chance” robbery, but investigation established that the deceased was the same person whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
He said investigators tracked the missing mobile phone of the deceased and identified the last person he communicated with as Rukayat Muhammed, leading to her arrest. Police said the suspect saved his contact as “Safiyat”.
Several hours after the incident, hotel staff gained access to the room after failing to establish contact with the occupants and found the body.
The CP said two staff members removed the body and transported it to Kubwa Expressway by Katampe bridge and dumped it by the roadside, apparently to distance the hotel from the incident.
He said the exact cause of death is yet to be established and investigation is ongoing, adding that anyone found culpable in the death or concealment of the body will face the law.
