Abia Police arrest 245 suspected criminals in 5 months

Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 245 suspected criminals, comprising 230 males and 15 females between January 2025 till date.

Among the suspects apprehended by the Police is Chisom Chikwendu, arrested in connection with the ambush and killing of two Chinese expertriates and their Police escort on April 4 at Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia, Danladi Isa, made the announcement on Friday, at Police headquarters Umuahia while briefing Journalists on achievements recorded by his Command in crime fighting.

He said that the 245 suspects were arrested for crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, rape, defilement, child trafficking, cattle rustling etc, noting that some of the arrested suspects have been charged to court.

He said that 9 kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children were safely rescued by officers of the command while guns, stolen vehicles, tricycles, cache of weapons, stolen property, illicit drugs, cultists’ barrett and a wrap of fake Naira notes were recovered during the period in review.

Also, on June 24, 2025, according to him, officers from the Intelligence Response Unit arrested three suspects linked to a kidnapping incident earlier in the month and also arrested 24 persons for unlawful association and illegal possession of arms in Ahuwa /Umuigu Oboro community Ikwuano LGA.

Also, three men, Ali Saidu (27), Yakubu Mohammed (20), and Adamu Isa (27), were apprehended by Operation Crush operatives while allegedly attempting to rustle six cows in Ohiya, Umuahia South LGA.

The case is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

CP Isa emphasised the collaboration with other security agencies and the public and praised the officers for their professionalism even as he promised to secure more lives and property in the state
