Nine months after appeal court judgement, Abia State House of Assembly has sworn in Aaron Uzodike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the member representing the Aba North constituency.
Uzodike, who contested the 2023 House of Assembly election on the platform of the PDP, was declared the winner by the Court of Appeal in Lagos after the Appellate court sacked Destiny Akara Nwagwu of the Labour Party.
But the Assembly did not swear in the PDP lawmaker, even after he received the Certified True Copy of the Appeal Court judgement and despite receiving a Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The delay in the swearing-in of Uzodike was attributed to an alleged court injunction thereby dragging the Aba North legislator’s wait to nine months.
Also, the Appeal Court ruling which sacked the former LP lawmaker, Destiny Nwagwu was rejected by the Labour Party members in Abia, who protested in the streets of Umuahia.
But on Tuesday, Aaron Uzodike was finally sworn in by the Speaker, to the jubilation of PDP members in Aba North and other parts of the state.
