Abductors of Debo Farounbi, Vice-Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area in Osun State, have demanded an additional ₦30 million ransom and a vehicle, nearly two months after his abduction.
Farounbi was seized on June 9, 2026, when armed men invaded Ora-Igbomina. Military personnel rescued three other victims during the raid, but the attackers escaped with the council official.
Community sources said residents raised an initial ₦30 million and medications, which were delivered to the abductors four weeks ago. Instead of releasing the 59-year-old, the kidnappers demanded additional payment.
Local leaders confirmed negotiations are ongoing but his release has not been secured.
Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said he was unaware of the new demand. He added that two suspects arrested in connection with the abduction have been charged and remanded in prison custody.
The incident is the third abduction reported in Ora-Igbomina in the past eight months, raising fresh concerns over insecurity along the Osun-Kwara border.
