The Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Fire Services Agency Reform and Chairman, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, June 8.

Akinwande explained that it happened when the man tried to retrieve his phone from the well without adequately knowledging the risks.

“The distress call was reported at exactly 06:10hrs this morning, Sunday, June 8, 2025, through a telephone call by Mr Samuel that someone fell into a well at Mobolorunduro Mosque, No. 30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

“The fire personnel, led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs), promptly deployed to the scene of the incident. On getting there, it was discovered that a man, about 68 years of age, was trapped inside a deep well at Mobolorunduro Mosque while he was trying to recover his lost phone.

“The firemen swiftly swung into action by tying all necessary knots and observing precautionary measures. The man was rescued alive and handed over to his family for proper care.

“The cause of the incident was ignorance, not knowing the danger associated with entering a well without proper training.”

Akinwande advised the public to avoid activities that could endanger their lives. He also highlighted the efforts of the current administration in ensuring the safety of life and property in the state.
