The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man identified as “Abule” for allegedly def!ling a 12-year-old girl in Molete, Ibadan.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, May 2, 2026 said the suspect lured the girl, who was hawking snacks, into an uncompleted building where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“The Oyo State Police Command, in its continuous drive to rid the state of targeted crime, crimes of passion, and gender-based violence, has arrested a 35-year-old suspect identified only as “Abule” for the offence of defilement,” the statement read

“The suspect was apprehended following a report involving a 12-year-old girl who was hawking snacks in the Araromi area of Eyin Grammar, Molete, Ibadan.

“It was reported that while the child was attempting to collect payment for goods sold, the suspect took advantage of her by luring her into an uncompleted building where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“Immediately the report was received, the DPO Sanyo led a team of detectives to the scene, and the survivor was promptly taken for a comprehensive medical examination and treatment to ensure her well-being and secure vital forensic evidence.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga psc mnips, has directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Department of the Command for a discreet and thorough investigation to ensure all facts are established for diligent prosecution.

“While the suspect remains in custody, the Commissioner of Police wishes to reassure members of the public that crimes against women and the vulnerable will not thrive in the state, as the Command remains resolute in ensuring that any perpetrator of such heinous acts will face the full wrath of the law.

“Furthermore, the Command encourages all residents to cooperate fully with the police and remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious person or movement to the nearest police station or security post to ensure a safer Oyo State for everyone.”
