The Edo State Police Command has arrested twenty-three suspected cultists in Benin city.
The spokesman of the police command in the state, Superintendent Bello Kontongs, who confirmed this said the arrest took place on Saturday ahead of a planned procession to celebrate one of their leaders’ birthday.
Kontongs explained that the command had set out to investigate the situation after it received information from a member of the public that some young men, armed and dressed in white and black attires were seen gathered around Sapele road in Benin City the Edo State capital.
According to him, on sighting the police, the young men opened fire and destroyed vehicles around the scene.
