The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday dismissed remarks by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 elections, over plans to monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking in Kano, the party’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Aruwa, described the comments as confusing and unnecessary, insisting that the NNPP national leader has lost touch with current political realities.

Ahmad Aruwa said Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso was no longer in a position to speak authoritatively on electoral matters, questioning his standing within the NNPP and his relevance to the 2027 contest.

“He is confused and has reached a stage where he is beginning to lose track of Nigerian politics. He is not the legitimate leader of the NNPP and is not even a candidate of any party,” Aruwa said.

The APC spokesman said the ruling party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had already concluded decisive arrangements to secure victory in Kano State.

According to Ahmad Aruwa, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had been fully briefed on the party’s preparations and was satisfied with the strategy in place.

He said the APC had confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, adding that past electoral outcomes, including losses at the Supreme Court, demonstrated the commission’s transparency and fairness.

Ahmad Aruwa accused Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of attempting to undermine public confidence in the electoral process, describing the remarks as politically motivated.

“He knows he will not win. That is why he is making such statements. Nigerians should ignore him and place their trust in INEC,” he said.

The response followed comments made by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso at the NNPP national convention held in Abuja on Saturday, where party executives led by Ahmed Ajuji were re-elected.

At the event, attended by INEC representatives and delegates from across the country, Kwankwaso praised the electoral body’s role in democracy but said the party would keep a close watch on its activities ahead of 2027.

Ahmad Aruwa reiterated that the APC remained confident in the electoral process, describing attempts to cast doubt on INEC’s credibility as a distraction rather than a legitimate concern.
