The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin issuing access codes to all registered political parties on Friday, June 26, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made the disclosure on Tuesday during the Second Quarterly Consultative Meeting with leaders of political parties held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, the access codes will grant political parties entry into the Candidate Nomination Portal, where they will be required to upload the details of their nominated candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 polls.
Amupitan explained that the nomination process will be fully automated, stressing that the portal will close automatically once the submission window expires, with no possibility of extension.
He urged political parties to ensure their ICT teams and election officers are fully prepared to meet the deadline.
He further advised parties to step up voter education and mobilisation efforts in support of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
He encouraged eligible Nigerians who have turned 18, as well as those seeking updates or transfers of their voter details, to take advantage of the registration process and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The INEC Chairman also expressed concern over ongoing court cases involving internal leadership disputes within several political parties, describing the situation as a distraction to the electoral process.
He appealed to political actors to resolve their internal conflicts amicably and focus on strengthening democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
