Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has officially endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred candidate to succeed him in the 2027 governorship election.
The governor announced the endorsement in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 19 following what he described as extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
AbdulRazaq described Yahaya Seriki as a “young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded” politician with deep grassroots support and significant goodwill across the state.
According to the governor in a statement he personally signed, the endorsement was based on his confidence in Seriki’s leadership capacity and suitability for the state at this time.
AbdulRazaq, who is serving his second and final term as governor, described Seriki as a young, people-oriented politician with proven grassroots mobilisation skills and broad acceptance across Kwara.
“Young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has been a great political mobiliser with profound investments in and extensive goodwill among the people of Kwara State,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence in Seriki’s capacity to lead, adding that the endorsement is appropriate for the state at this time.
However, AbdulRazaq clarified that the endorsement does not shut out other aspirants seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket. He urged party members to rally behind Seriki to ensure cohesion and continued electoral success ahead of the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people,” he said, noting that among the 16 aspirants, only one can eventually secure the ticket.
The governor commended all the aspirants for their discipline and commitment to building on the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
Meanwhile, AbdulRazaq is also contesting for the Kwara Central Senatorial District ticket, running unopposed in the APC primary.
