The Accord Party has officially presented its Certificate of Return to Opeyemi Falegan, its candidate for the June 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

The presentation was made by the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

Falegan emerged as the party’s flagbearer following its governorship primary, in compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timeline for Ekiti State primaries.

Speaking during the presentation, Mgbudem congratulated Falegan, praising his resilience, integrity, and political acumen.

He said party delegates voted for “competence, effective leadership, inclusive governance, unity, prosperity, and order in Ekiti State,” and expressed confidence that Accord would secure victory in the 2026 election.

“In the same way we have gathered for the presentation of the party’s Certificate of Return to His Excellency, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, we shall gather again at the INEC office for the presentation of the Certificate of Return for his victory in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election,” Mgbudem said.

Highlighting recent momentum following the defection of Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke to the party, Mgbudem urged members to sustain their efforts in upcoming off-cycle governorship elections, including in the FCT, Osun, and Ekiti, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Mgbudem also directed Falegan to comply with the party’s constitution and manifesto in constituting his campaign team.

He stressed the importance of inclusiveness, grassroots engagement, issue-based campaigning, and adherence to democratic values.

Responding, Falegan pledged to focus his administration on seven key areas, including agriculture, education, youth employment, and infrastructure.

He promised to empower 1,000 youths monthly totalling 48,000 over four years and to fix major roads in the state within six months if elected.

“The average youth in Ekiti State is jobless, and even those with jobs are okada riders,” Falegan said.

“We don’t just want to create jobs; we want to create entrepreneurs. Major roads, which have become death traps, will be fixed within six months.”

Falegan also criticised Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration, alleging that the state was being run as a “government of ex-governors, by ex-governors, for ex-governors.”
