The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU Bauchi Zone, has threatened industrial action against Gombe and Plateau state governments over non-implementation of the December 23, 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement.

Zonal Coordinator Timothy-Aku Namo told reporters on Thursday at Gombe State University that both states have failed to meet their obligations under the pact. He said a recent NEC forensic audit showed most state-owned universities are not complying.

He highlighted that, aside from Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi and Ekiti State University, the majority of state-owned institutions have ignored the pact. Some state governments have reportedly argued that they were not direct signatories to the agreement, a claim the union rejects.

The union emphasized that the failure to implement the terms of the agreement has led to deteriorating welfare for academic staff and growing dissatisfaction among lecturers.

According to the union, both Gombe State University and Plateau State University are currently considered “flashpoints” for potential labor unrest.

“We call on the Visitors to Gombe State University and Plateau State University to direct the immediate implementation of the 2025 agreement and address all other lingering issues, or risk industrial disharmony,” Namo stated.

The union leader has appealed to parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and the media to intervene and pressure the respective state governments to honor the agreement before the situation escalates into a strike.
