Candidates of 14 political parties in the August 15 Osun State governorship election have signed a peace accord, pledging to run a violent-free campaign and accept the outcome of the poll.
The accord was signed in Osogbo on Thursday during a ceremony organised by the National Peace Committee. Remarks were delivered by John Cardinal Onaiyekan on behalf of former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.).
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, contesting on the Accord platform, signed alongside representatives of APC’s Bola Oyebamiji and ADC’s Dr. Najeem Salaam.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said 11 of 13 election activities have been completed, with campaigns ending August 13.
The state has 2,339,233 registered voters across 3,763 polling units, and PVC collection closes Friday, July 31.
Security agencies and traditional rulers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, urged all parties to shun violence and vote buying.
