The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has affirmed its readiness for the party’s National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, despite two Federal High Court rulings preventing the exercise.
The court in Abuja had blocked the convention, citing the party’s failure to comply with legal requirements, including publishing a timetable for members and issuing a 21-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
A lawsuit by former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, who claimed he was denied the opportunity to purchase a chairmanship nomination form, also contributed to the court’s ruling.
However, the acting state chairman of PDP in Enugu, Steve Oruruo, stated that the state chapter of the party is fully prepared to participate.
Speaking after meetings with party organs in Enugu, he confirmed that all logistical and organisational arrangements, including travel for delegates, have been completed.
“I just returned from Abuja, where I secured all the necessary materials for the convention. We have held meetings with our delegates, distributed uniforms, and finalised travel logistics. Our delegates from the South East, particularly Enugu, will be airlifted from Akanu Ibiam International Airport,” Oruruo stated.
He emphasised that the Enugu PDP remains a strong and united force despite recent defections, sending about 81 delegates to the convention and potentially sponsoring additional participants depending on resources.
