Police identified the two suspects at Bayo Adegoke, 31, and Adetunji Obey, 45.

Police alleged that nemesis caught up with the suspects when the owners of the stolen buses, Olamide Oluwaseun and Badejo Adetayo petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command that unidentified persons had stolen their buses, a T4 Volkswagen bus with plate Number KRD 194 XM valued N1.7m and a Volkswagen bus with plate Number LND 393 XY valued N1.7m from where they parked them in Obalende and Itire-Ajegunle Area of Lagos at about 1:30am.

Following the report, the AIG directed his crack team led by Inspector Ayo Odubu to fish out the suspects anywhere they might be hiding.

The Police team, after days of intelligence gathering tracked the suspects to a hideout in Ikorodu, Lagos and arrested them.

The two arrested suspects also led the Police to arrest the alleged stolen bus buyer, Tosin Badejo.

The three suspects were charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a four-court charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen bus valued N1.7m knowing same to have been stolen.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector O.S Salami informed the Court in the charge marked R/02 that the defendants committed the offence on 2 September 2021 in Obalende and Itire –Ajegunle area of Lagos at about 1:30am.

Salami told the Court that the defendants cleverly stole the buses from where the complainants parked them and sold one of the buses to the third defendant in Ikorodu before they were arrested.

He said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under sections 411, 287 (10), and 328 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and their Counsel Barr. Ofondu prayed the Court to grant the defendants bail in the most liberal terms, adding that the defendants were still innocent of the allegations levelled against them by the Police until it is proved otherwise.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. A. Alogba granted them N200, 000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.

Alogba adjourned the case till 28 March, 2022 for mention and ordered that the defendants be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till they perfected the bail conditions.
