Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank following a disastrous run of form that has left the North London club languishing just five points above the Premier League relegation zone.

The decision was finalized on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after a demoralizing 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United. The loss, Tottenham’s 11th in 26 league outings this term, saw the home crowd voice their frustration by booing the team off the pitch at the final whistle.

Despite an impressive showing in Europe, where Frank guided Spurs to a fourth-place finish in the Champions League league phase, the club’s domestic form has been catastrophic.

Under the Danish manager, Tottenham have failed to record a single Premier League victory since the turn of the year.

Statistically, Frank departs as the least successful manager in the club’s Premier League history (minimum five games). According to Opta, his average of 1.12 points-per-game is the lowest ever recorded by a Spurs boss in the competition.

In a formal statement released on Wednesday, the club confirmed the termination of Frank’s three-year contract: “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position… Results and performances have led the Board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary. We would like to thank Thomas for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

The sacking comes despite Frank’s defiant stance following Tuesday’s defeat. Addressing the media, the former Brentford boss insisted he was the right man to lead a turnaround, citing a crippling injury list of 10 to 11 senior players.

“How convinced am I that I am the right man for the job? 1,000% sure,” Frank had told reporters. “I understand the mechanism in football (to sack the manager), but there are a lot of studies that show it is not the right thing to do.”

Frank’s departure marks another turbulent chapter for Spurs. He was appointed in June 2025 to replace Ange Postecoglou, who left the club after a 17th-place finish last season, despite winning the Europa League.

According to The Athletic, the club has already begun working through “contingency plans” to appoint a successor. With the threat of a relegation battle looming, the board is expected to move quickly to stabilize a squad that has won just 29 points from 26 games.
