Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for calm over the result of the Presidential election in the state.
This is in response to rumours that there was a breakdown of law and order on Monday in several areas of the state.
In a keenly contested election, Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), defeated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
Though Tinubu won more local government areas, Obi defeated him with more of the votes.
With the results declared, Obi polled 582,664, while Tinubu scored 541,850
Obi’s victory in Tinubu’s stronghold was seen as an upset by many.
In a statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to go about their businesses.
“We have got reports of friction in some parts of Lagos this morning. All is calm now.
“There is no need for violence, which is not part of our culture.
“I urge all Lagosians to go about their businesses without any fear of harassment.
“Law enforcement agencies have been asked to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in any part of the State.”
