A fuel-laden tanker on Friday caught fire on Otedola Bridge around the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway causing traffic gridlock in the axis.
However, no casualty was recorded as the fire was quickly curtailed by first responders.
LASTMA confirmed the incident on it’s official Twitter handle;
”A few minutes ago, a tanker head went up in flames just leaving the Otedola Bridge ascending inward Berger.
”Upon arrival at the scene it was observed a Mack tanker truck with no registration number loaded with 45,000 litres of diesel was gutted by fire while descending Otedola bridge inward Berger. Further investigation gathered at the scene revealed that fire started as result of an electrical fault, due to the quick intervention of the agency’s Tiger team and @LAG_FireService the fire was extinguished and prevented from spreading into the main tank.
Road users are advised to avoid the corridor as the incident has caused gridlock.
”Though the fire has been put out, we implore Motorists to take extra care driving through this route @followlastma on ground doing the needful. Please comply with traffic Officers”
Many motorists are now stranded around the axis.
Friday’s incident occurred days after the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said that there are no demon, witch or wizard at the Otedola Bridge but reckless drivers and expired trucks were responsible for the incessant crashes around the bridge.
