The Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has declared that South-South governors support Tinubu in his bid for reelection, crediting the president with transformative reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Stakeholders meeting held in Benin City on Saturday, Governor Otu described the region’s backing as “an alabaster of endorsements” offered “generously and unreservedly” to President Tinubu, whom he called “the Captain of the Progressives.”
Reflecting on Cross River’s political journey, Otu said the state’s early alignment with the APC in the South-South once left it politically isolated but never without hope.
“We assuaged the loneliness with the conviction that we took an informed decision because hope was indeed on the horizon,” he stated.
The declaration that South-South governors support Tinubu came as Otu outlined the administration’s key achievements, citing the removal of fuel subsidies, the unification of exchange rates, and a $13.17 billion trade surplus.
He also noted the external reserves now stand at $40 billion, signalling renewed investor confidence and economic stability.
Otu praised several social and economic policies, including the student loan scheme, access to consumer credit, removal of tariffs on essential goods, and agricultural incentives aimed at boosting productivity.
“Our delivery strides at various sectors are gallant and sustainable,” he added.
Emphasising leadership consistency, Otu described Tinubu’s capacity to steer the country through turbulence with courage and focus as the hallmark of visionary governance.
“Nothing attracts greatness to a personality like the consistency of character and excellency of courage in the face of daunting demands,” he said.
He urged party members to remain united and loyal, stressing that disrupting a functioning system would be counterproductive.
“It is a great error to change a working formula, a productive philosophy or an efficient workman,” he said.
The reaffirmation that South-South governors support Tinubu signals a coordinated regional backing ahead of future elections and reinforces the APC’s drive to consolidate developmental gains across Nigeria.
