Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, inaugurated a network of roads in Somolu and Kosofe local government areas, urging residents to take ownership of the projects and ensure their maintenance.

The roads commissioned by the Governor included St. Finbarr’s College Road, Asani, Tijani Ashogbon, Jagunmolu, Shogbamu, and Diya Streets.

These critical infrastructure projects are part of Lagos State’s broader infrastructural master plan and align with the THEMES+ agenda, focusing on transportation and traffic management.

The 4.7-kilometre dual carriageway, with an average width of 7.3 metres, connects key institutions such as the University of Lagos, St. Finbarr’s College, CMS Grammar School, and the Federal College of Education, Bariga Waterfront Jetty.

The road network also serves thriving small and medium enterprises, vibrant residential areas, and the iconic Deeper Life Church headquarters in Gbagada, complementing the earlier completed Ilaje Road.

During the formal commissioning at Ilaje Bus Stop in the Bariga area, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that the road rehabilitation was part of his administration’s Greater Lagos vision, designed to create a Lagos that works efficiently for all its residents.

“In line with the first pillar of our THEMES+ agenda, this road rehabilitation project will enhance commuting experiences, improve real estate values, and elevate the quality of life for the people of the benefiting areas,” the Governor said.

He further emphasised that quality delivery remains the top priority, highlighting the inclusion of walkways, service ducts, and solar-powered street lighting to ensure that the roads serve their intended purpose sustainably. “Lagos will not settle for anything less,” he asserted.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also assured Lagosians that infrastructure development would continue to scale up across the state, with ongoing projects being completed and new ones being launched.

“No part of the state will be left behind,” he stated, “We will continue to ensure that development is equitably distributed.”

The Governor urged residents to preserve the roads and avoid actions that could shorten their lifespan. “The longer our roads last, the more resources we can free up for other projects,” he explained.

Earlier, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, explained that the road rehabilitation would stimulate economic growth by enhancing property values, supporting local businesses, and improving access to educational institutions, commercial hubs, and residential neighbourhoods.

“This initiative is also a crucial part of our ongoing efforts to enhance intermodal transportation in Lagos,” Daramola said, further underscoring the government’s commitment to infrastructure improvement.

Key stakeholders, including the Onisabe of Igbobi-Sabe, HRM Oba Owolabi Adeyemi Adeniyi; Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, and Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the road network and appealed to residents to take care of the infrastructure.
