Protest rocked Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday following the 24-hr curfew imposed by Governor Caleb Muftwang to stop deteriorating security situation in the area.
It was gathered that the protesting youths burnt houses and destroyed properties over what they tagged ‘silent killings’ by gunmen suspected to be killer herdsmen in the council.
It was also gathered that the protesters were, however, attacked by some hoodlums, and the confrontation eventually resulted in the burning of houses, including places of worship.
A statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the governor, Mr. Gyang Bere, said the government took the decision after consultations with the relevant security agencies and that only people on essential duties are allowed to move within the local government area until further notice.
He urged all citizens, especially residents of Mangu Local Government, to comply with the directive and assist the security personnel by providing reliable information to restore peace and order in the area.
