Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Kano with immediate effect.

The Governor made the declaration while addressing a press conference on Thursday at Ande-chamber government house, saying it was regrettable that the peaceful protest was hijacked by enemies of progress to cause havoc and untimely death of innocent people.

He however disclosed that in the early hours of Thursday, he received demands from the organisers of the peaceful protest.

“I therefore promised them that I would forward their demands to Mr President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appropriate action,” he said.

Continuing, Governor Yusuf stated that it was lamentable that some enemies of progress hijacked the protest to foment trouble and attacked innocent people in the state.

According to him, the curfew was declared due to the calamities and untold hardship caused by the enemies of progress and to further avert the destruction of property and guide against further mayhem.

“By the power conferred on me as the chief security of the state, I then declare a 24-hour curfew in the state.”

He then urged the teeming masses to bear with him on this step taken, adding that it is the best option at this crucial time to avert unnecessary wanton destruction of innocent property and killing of the people.

Governor Yusuf then directed the security operatives to effect this order by making sure that it was effectively maintained and observed at every nook and cranny of the state.
