“On my assumption of duty as the 33rd Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Police Command on 2nd May, 2023,

“I have come to understand that, the security challenges prevalent in state mainly include: Armed Banditry; Reprisal Attacks; Kidnapping/Abduction for ransom and Political Intolerance,” the CP stated.

“I will review the existing crime fighting strategies and garnish them with community policing approach in line with the teaching, vision and mission of the Inspector General of Police to make them more effective in order to meet up with the challenges of modern day policing,”

“Our combat readiness, determination and total commitment towards onslaught against vicious crimes in partnership with the State Government, Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious Leaders, Civil Society Organizations, other Sister Security Agencies and the Press will be greatly improved upon and sustained.

“Our Policing initiatives would be driven by useful information and actionable intelligence at strategic, operational and tactical levels for maximum efficiency; proactive and preventive in orientation and shall be conducted within the context of Police – Public partnership, participation, problem- solving and community support to achieve the desired objectives as this has already started yielding positive results as follows:

“On 3rd May, 2023 at about 1430hrs, a team of Police operatives attached to Anti-Violence Squad while on surveillance patrol along Gusau – Tsafe road at Gidan Giye village in Tsafe LGA intercepted bandits on three motorcycles each carrying three persons.

” On sighting the Police, the bandits engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for an hour.

“However, due to superior fighting power, the Anti-Violence Squad neutralized two of the bandits and recovered One AK-49 rifle and one Pump action Gun while other bandits escaped with possible gunshots wounds.

“Similarly, on 4th May, 2023 at about 1410hrs, Police Tactical operatives received a distress call that two armed men suspected to be bandits attacked one Abdullahi Na’ibi ‘M’ of Yardadi Village via Rini District of Bakura LGA of Zamfara State while on his way to Bakura Town.

“On receiving the report, the DPO swiftly mobilized and led a striking force of the division, trailed the bandits and caught up with them at Yardadi Village.

” Upon sighting the Police, the bandits engaged them in Gun duel where the gallant Policemen retaliated with superior fire as a result of that, one of the bandits was neutralized while the other retreated and ran into the bush with gunshot wounds.

” One AK-103-2 rifle with one empty magazine were recovered while the victim was rescued and taken to the General Hospital Talata Mafara for medical attention and is responding to treatment,”

“”In view of the above, I want to assure the good people of the state that, the police under my watch will discharge its responsibilities in line with professional ethics of the force with justice and equity to all. Human rights violations, corrupt practices and other unprofessional conducts will not be tolerated.

“Finally, I want to appeal for continued support, cooperation and collaboration from all and sundry through giving useful and timely information to the police on activities of criminal elements for prompt action.

“With your kind support, we shall together salvage our dear Zamfara State of the debilitating insecurity and emplace a conducive environment for our people to go about their daily businesses without led or hindrance.”
