Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the body of a Canadian national, Mr Dwight Sullivan, has been released to a relative for cremation following his death in a hotel on Victoria Island.
Sullivan was reportedly found lifeless in his hotel room on Tuesday, prompting an immediate response from officers of the Victoria Island Division after a distress call was received.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said police operatives arrived promptly at the scene and conducted a preliminary examination of the body.
“Upon arrival, our officers discovered that there were no visible marks of violence on the deceased, suggesting that no foul play was immediately suspected,” Adebisi stated.
According to her, the body was subsequently taken to the morgue for preservation while investigations commenced.
She added that the command also established contact with the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, through which a family member of the deceased was reached.
“The relative has since taken custody of the corpse for cremation,” Adebisi confirmed.
As of press time, the police said investigations were still ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of death.
