Police authorities in Lagos State have arrested thirty-two individuals in connection with violent attacks at the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Akoka, Lagos.
In a statement, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, detailed the events leading to the arrests.
“For over three months, staff of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, have locked out their Provost, depriving him of access to his office,” Hundeyin posted on his X handle late Monday.
“A team appointed by the Minister of Education arrived at the school today to mediate the ongoing impasse. However, the staff, aided by students, attacked the team from Abuja, damaging over five vehicles and the Provost’s official quarters.
The rioting staff and students further blocked all entrances to and from the college. When the police arrived to restore order, they were attacked with stones and sachets of water by the rioters.
“Thirty-two suspects have been arrested, and officers from the Nigeria Police Force Area Command in Surulere remain on the scene to ensure that peace is maintained,” Hundeyin added.
The school authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
