The police in Ogun State on Wednesday arrested two brothers for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry car, marked JJJ 661 GJ at a car wash.

The duo identified as Emmanuel Nwachukwu (28) and Sunday Nwachukwu (24) were reportedly apprehended while on their way driving the said vehicle to Imo State.

Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the two brothers were arrested by men of the Federal Highway patrol, who were on stop-and-search duty along the Lagos/Ibadan highway.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspects had abandoned the car and fled when the vehicle was stopped for routine check at about 11:30 pm.

While the officers were asking questions from one of them who drove the car, the two brothers, who were the occupants, suddenly abandoned the car and took to their heels,” he said.

However, the police went after them, got them arrested and took them to Ewu-Oliwo division for proper interrogation.

“On interrogation, the two brothers who live at 2, Onifade Street, Fagba Lagos, confessed to stealing the car from one Bello Muyideen Kolawole of Arobaba Street, Idimu Lagos.”

When contacted by the DPO of Ewu-Oliwo division, CSP Toyosi Bello, the said owner of the car had confirmed that the siblings were working at a car wash near his shop; adding that they ran away with the car when he took it to them for washing.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has ordered that the two suspects be transferred to the State CIID for onward transfer to the Lagos State Command, where the crime was originally committed.
