Police arrest 18-yr-old boy for faking own kidnap in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old boy, Safiyanu Lawan, who faked his own kidnap in Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state. 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, said the teenage boy conspired with one Abdulrazak Salisu, 27, to fake his own abduction in order to collect money from his father.

“On 19/04/2024 at about 1430hrs, one Alhaji Lawan Dankoli ‘m’ of Kiyawa LGA reported at State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse that, on 17/04/2024, his son one Safiyanu Lawan ‘m’ 18yrs went out for shopping in preparation for school resumption but has not return back,” the statement reads.

“Later on the same date at about 2320hrs, an unknown person called him severally with an unknown number and threatening him that, the said Safiyanu was kidnapped.

“On receipt of the information, a team of Policemen attached to State Intelligence Department (SID) Dutse swung into action and visited the scene of crime where one Abdulrazak Salisu ‘m’ age 27yrs of Zango quarters, Kiyawa LGA was arrested in connection with the case.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have known where the said Safiyanu was hiding and that they conspired together in order to collect money from the father; the team swiftly moved to the location and arrested the acclaimed victim (safiyanu lawan). 

“Meanwhile investigation is ongoing, while suspects will be arraigned for prosecution.”
