The Chairperson of Ondo West Local Government; Mrs Amope Akinsulire, has advised the people of the Local Government to desist from sleeping with lunatics in the society.

The wife of the Chairman stated this while on a visit to the MMM hospital in Ondo to see a lunatic who early in the morning gave birth to a baby girl.

She opined that the rate at which mentally ill persons are put in family ways is quite alarming. Appealing to Government to do something urgently to curb the dastardly act.

Pledging her office’s determination to take care of the new born baby, she equally promised to use her office to seek for the rehabilitation of the mother.

The lunatic named Deborah gave birth to the baby at Oduduwa junction Adeyemi college of Education road Ondo

The woman whom eyewitness-accounts revealed gave birth to the baby by herself without any medical assistance, was said to have wrapped the baby in a cloth and sat behind her.

Help however came her way when the Catholic Mission got wind of her case and quickly came around to rescue the new born baby and the mother. Both were admitted at the MMM hospital in town for medical attention and rehabilitation.

Addressing the Chairperson of the Local Government, the Co-ordinator, JSDP, an NGO within Catholic Mission, Mr Valentine appreciated the Chairperson for her quick intervention in the case saying it is very unusual for Chairpersons of the Local Government in times past to intervene in such issue urgently as Mrs Akinsulire did.

He appealed to the Local Government to kindly come to the aid of the new born baby as well rehabilitate the mother.
