Adebayo Adeyemi Rashidat has emerged winner of the 2026 Ogun Women Run, crossing the finish line in 30:15.61 to claim the top prize in the 5km race held in Abeokuta.
The women-focused event, organised by Brussel Sports Management Limited, attracted about 1,000 participants and began at Sapon, ending at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
Rashidat finished ahead of Alawode Omotayo Adiat, who placed second in 31:09.46, while Akoni Oluwanifemi came third with a time of 31:18.65.
For her victory, Rashidat received a cash prize of ₦500,000, while Adiat and Oluwanifemi earned ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.
Managing Director of Brussel Sports Management Limited, Yetunde Johnson, commended the turnout and organisation of the race, describing the event as successful.
She also acknowledged the support of the Ogun State Government and sponsors for contributing to the smooth staging of the competition.
The race was flagged off by former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Adijat Adeleye, alongside Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka.
Adeleye praised the participation of women, describing the event as a demonstration of unity and determination.
Isiaka reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting sports development and encouraging private sector involvement.
Dignitaries at the event included Paralympic Committee of Nigeria President Sunday Odebode, sports administrator Yetunde Olopade and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Tunde Delu.African economy outlook
