Ogun lawmakers have invited some alleged land grabbers in connection with an alleged case of forcible occupation of landed properties of some communities in 12 Community Development Associations (CDAs) at Obada-Oko, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State.

The invitation followed protest by some group from Obada-Oko in Ewekoro to the house of assembly over attacks and threats by some individuals over landed property.

The alleged landgrabbers invited are: Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, Ademola Owoeye, Garba Owoeye and Sina Oladunjoye.

Also invited by the lawmakers is one Taoheed Bayo, the Secretary of Lasabi Family

The invitation was announced by the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye during a joint meeting of the Assembly’s Committees on Lands and Housing, Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions.

Soneye in company of other 10 lawmakers, stated that the invitees were expected to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, 11th July, 2024, by 12 noon.

He said the House would not hesitate to declare them wanted and ask the security operatives to take further appropriate steps in line with the rule of law if they refused to honour the invitation.

Earlier while addressing the protesters the Speaker noted that it had became imperative for the State Government to rise up to the task of checkmating the nefarious activities of land grabbers across the State.

He noted that other crimes were being committed under the guise of enforcement of court orders on landed properties.

Elemide, also warned security agencies to desist from providing illicit cover for land grabbers who hide under the guise of being land and estate developers.

He implored heads of security formations in the State to redouble their efforts in curbing the menace of land grabbing which had been causing unwarranted tension in communities in the State.

Representative from the communities including the Baale Opelifa in Obada Oko, Chief Awopeju Saheed alleged that residents of the affected communities, had been experiencing attacks and threats from one Mutairu Owoeye and his group on their landed property.
