The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has been notified of the serious incident involving the Embraer ERJI45 aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines and it has commenced investigation.
NSIB in a statement issued by the spokesperson, Tunji Oketumbi confirmed that all 51 passengers and four crew members were successfully evacuated.
He solicited information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recording that will assist them in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
So far, the cause of the incident apart from the wet runway remained unknown while passengers have been evacuated.
The Bureau said it will release the preliminary report soon.
“The NSIB will appreciate that the general public and press respect the privacy of the people involved and NOT assume the cause of the serious incident until formal report is released,” the Bureau stated.
The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence.
