The female squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), code named ‘Female Strike Force (FSF)’ will begin operations in Kwara State by the second quarter of this year.

The state’s Commandant, Iskilu Ayinla Makinde, disclosed this on Friday during the visit of the female squad to the Nigeria Correctional Centre of the Kwara State Command, Juvenile Rehabilitation Centre and some schools in Ilorin metropolis, the state capital.

According to a statement by the spokesman of the state’s NSCDC, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the National Commander of the NSCDC’s Female Strike Force, CSC Imonikhe Oluwakemi, who was on a working visit to the Kwara Command, confirmed the female squad’s readiness to complement the efforts of their male colleagues, adding that the female squad is committed to doing their best in combating security challenges facing the country.

The NSCDC Commandant General Abdullahi Ahmed Audi, according to the spokesman, said the female squad was a child of necessity borne out of the need to effectively curtail recent upsurge of insecurity occasioned by armed banditry, kidnapping, as well as the need to effectively implement the government’s safe school initiatives.

Afolabi said CSC Imonikhe Oluwakemi, also appealed to the inmates at the correctional centre to turn over a new leaf and shun criminal acts.

The Controller of the Correctional Centre in the State, Mrs Ozuzuma Collete, the spokesman added, reiterated the Correctional Centre’s readiness to work together with the female squad like their male counterpart in order to curtail any breach of security at their facility.
