The Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with suspected oil bunkering on NNPC pipelines around Kainji Quarters, on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis.
It was reported that youths in the area had taken advantage of a leak in one of the major NNPC pipelines that passed through the area and had embarked on illegal bunkering of oil all the way to Gombe Depot.
Confirming the incident in Bauchi, NSCDC Public Relations Officer, DSC Ibrahim Abubakar Gabdu, explained that officers of the corps had apprehended the five suspects red-handed at the scene of the illegal bunkering, along with their jerrycans filled with the bunkered oil.
DSC Gabdu added that the suspects would be arraigned before the court after the conclusion of the necessary investigation.
Speaking on the matter, the ward head of Kainji Quarters, where the illegal bunkering occurred, Malam Salihu Ibrahim, expressed great concern over the inherent danger of the illegal act.
He reported the matter to the authorities and urged them to hasten the repairs of the broken pipeline to avert impending consequences in the area and other parts of Bauchi metropolis.
