Niger State government has mandated boat operators on all water ways in the State to ensure the use of life jackets by passengers before boarding .
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel-Berje said the order takes immediate effect.
According to him, the life jackets have already been distributed to all riverine communities in the State while noting that government is willing to distribute more where they are required.
“ Boat operators should also maintain manifest of all their passengers including detail contact of their next of kin and that government will pay regular visits to all riverine areas to monitor and ensure total compliance to all precautionary measures on water ways” the statement read.
