The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 315 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the country.
NCDC disclosed this in a tweet on Monday night, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 12,801.
According to the health agency, Lagos State recorded the highest number of infections for the day in the country with 128 cases while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State had 34 and 32 cases respectively.
A further breakdown of the new cases showed that Edo State has 28 infections, Oyo (22), Kaduna (20), Gombe (13), Ogun (8) and Plateau (5).
Others are Delta (7), Kwara (7), Kano (5), Bauchi (4), and Katsina (2).
Of the number of positive cases in Nigeria so far, 4040 persons have fully recovered and have been discharged while 361 persons have died.
Furthermore ,the Minister of health,Dr. Osagie Ehanire while briefing newsmen earlier on Monday about activities of the center in the last 100 days since the first case was recorded in the country said over 76,800 persons have been tested while 12,486 confirmed cases have been recorded in 35 States and FCT.
He further announced that 3,959 persons have been successfully treated and discharged with 354 death recorded most of whom had underlying illnesses.
“Our response during this period has been focused and targeted; at the initial phase, on screening travellers at Points of Entry, testing for virus importation, tracing their contacts and isolating positive cases”.
“Since our entry into the community transmission phase, we have begun more aggressive tracking and testing and increased our laboratory network capacity from 5 to presently 30 molecular laboratories, with a plan for at least one laboratory in every state. This way, turnaround time is reduced to a minimum and case finding and management will run smoothly.”
Ehanire added that management of infected cases is being reviewed and improved, with revised Clinical Guidelines to be published in accordance with the learnings and evolving dynamics associated with COVID-19 and global best practices.
