At least fifteen persons including three children were burnt to death in a petrol tanker explosion that occurred along the Ugwu Onyeama section of the Enugu -Onitsha Expressway at about 11.30am on Saturday, January 25.
Eye witness accounts confirmed that the tanker carrying premium motor spirit, otherwise known as petrol, fell on the hilly road and spilled the product.
Unfortunately, it caught fire and all the vehicles plying the road at the time caught fire and burned people beyond recognition.
They described the blast as devastating, saying that the ensuing fire also gutted another truck behind it, leading to the escalation of the fire.
Victims reportedly burnt beyond recognition were believed to be occupants of the vehicles caught in the inferno.
Some of the victims were attempting to run away from the scene when they were caught by the fire
