The Lagos State Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development on Friday stepped up its enforcement activities at the Okunde Bluewater Scheme along Lekki Coastal Road, clearing illegal occupants and removing makeshift structures erected on state-owned land.

The exercise, led by the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, is part of a sustained clean-up initiative aimed at restoring order and safeguarding public infrastructure in line with the Lagos State Mega City Master Plan.

Speaking during the operation, Alebiosu stated that the exercise serves as a clear warning to those who may be planning to return and rebuild unauthorized structures on the site.

“We cleared this large expanse of land late last year, and it is no longer business as usual. Any attempts to rebuild shanties or makeshift structures on this site will be met with swift enforcement,” the commissioner said.

He added that the presence of such illegal settlements constitutes both environmental and security threats, stressing the state’s commitment to reclaiming and preserving its coastal areas for planned development.

“This operation is not just about aesthetics. These structures pose a significant risk to the environment and public safety. We are committed to enforcing the law and protecting our coastline,” Alebiosu added.

The Ministry reiterated its call to all encroachers to vacate restricted areas voluntarily, warning that further enforcement actions will continue across the state without compromise
