The Lagos State Government has announced major traffic diversion measures ahead of extensive road rehabilitation works on the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor.
The project will run for eight months, from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation.
With preliminary work already underway, the ministry explained that the rehabilitation will be executed in two phases to reduce congestion and ensure smoother traffic flow throughout the construction period.
PHASE 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate
The first phase will be carried out in seven sections.
One lane will be closed at a time, while motorists use the second lane.
Once repairs on the first lane are completed, work will transition to the other lane.
Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah are expected to experience a more seamless passage as traffic will be managed carefully during this stage.
PHASE 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge
The second phase will involve work in four sections, with significant adjustments for drivers coming from Ajah towards Lekki.
Traffic from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane while repair operations continue.
Upon completion of work on the first lane, construction will shift to the second lane.
The ministry assured that motorists heading toward Ajah will still enjoy continuous movement despite the diversions.
ADVISORY TO MOTORISTS
The Lagos State Government cautioned that certain sections of the road will experience partial closures, urging residents and road users to remain patient and obey traffic management officials throughout the duration of the project.
The ministry added that the rehabilitation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road quality, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure safer, faster travel across major corridors in the state.
