Lagos State Government has fixed Monday, January 12, 2026, as the resumption date for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session for all public and private schools in the state.

The announcement, which also covers government-owned technical colleges, was made in a statement released on Wednesday, in line with the approved academic calendar for Lagos State schools.

According to the statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Kayode Sutton, schools are expected to begin full academic and administrative activities immediately to ensure the seamless continuation of the school year.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, called on school proprietors and administrators to strictly observe all approved public health and safety regulations as students return to school.

He noted that monitoring teams have been deployed by the government to schools across the state to assess compliance with established safety standards, stressing that adherence to the guidelines is mandatory.

“All educational institutions must strictly comply with the required public health protocols as schools reopen,” the commissioner said, adding that the inspections are designed to protect the health and safety of students, teaching staff and non-teaching personnel.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education also commended teachers, parents and guardians for their continued cooperation, describing their support as vital to sustaining stability within the education sector.

Parents and guardians were further advised to ensure that pupils and students are well prepared for the new term, both academically and socially, as schools resume full operations.
