The Kebbi State Government has dismissed claims by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, that it procured adulterated fertilizer for farmers in the state.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Muazu, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday that the allegations were baseless.
He explained that the state government did not award any contract for fertilizer procurement in the 2025 wet season, but instead purchased directly from local blending plants to support industrialization and entrepreneurship.
According to him, three companies, Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer Blending Plant and Contect Agro Global Ltd, supplied fertilizer to the state government, while Mairiga Company handled procurement for local governments.
“The claim that the government awarded a fertilizer contract is false. The companies that supplied the products are credible, and the fertilizers are available for inspection by the public and the media,” Muazu said.
He added that Governor Nasir Idris also approved the introduction of bio-organic fertilizer in line with global agricultural trends, with ten trucks procured directly from Contect Agro Global Ltd.
The commissioner later displayed samples of both organic and chemical fertilizers to demonstrate their differences.
In a statement, Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, also refuted the ADC’s allegations, insisting that Kebbi State had not bought adulterated fertilizer.
