Corps member, Jennifer Elohor, has recounted her harrowing encounter with suspected members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group, who broke into her residence, assaulted her, and forcefully took her and her colleagues away
Recall that on August 19, a disturbing video emerged online showing members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group violently attacking a female corps member and her colleagues at their residence in Anambra State.
The footage, recorded on July 23, captured Elohor being beaten and stripped by armed men who stormed the lodge, accusing the corps members of engaging in internet fraud.
According to a legal advocacy group, the victims presented their NYSC identification cards, but the vigilantes ignored them and continued the assault—Elohor bearing the brunt of the violence.
In an interview with online personality Aprokoking, Elohor shared her account and called for justice. She described how she and her fellow corps members were in their lodge around 5 p.m. when they heard a loud, aggressive knock. Moments later, the door was forcefully kicked open.
“At first, we thought it was our neighbours’ door because it’s a three-storey building with several flats. But the knock became louder and more aggressive, so I decided to check. Before I could reach the door, it was kicked open,” she said.
She said a masked man with a gun entered the room without any form of identification or uniform. Initially fearing an armed robbery, she was ordered outside without explanation.
Despite showing their NYSC IDs and portal profiles, the vigilantes dismissed their claims and began ransacking the rooms, confiscating phones and laptops. Elohor said nine corps members were forced into a vehicle, slapped, and warned not to contact anyone.
She requested to change into new clothes but was denied and thrown into the vehicle. Elohor said she was slapped, insulted, and threatened with death.
The group was taken to the vigilante secretariat in Oba, without any opportunity to notify their Local Government Inspector (LGI) or lodge proprietor.
Elohor concluded with a plea: “I want justice. I want those people punished in the best way possible.”
